After 20 minutes waiting in line at Smart & Final, it hit me: why can't I just use my phone to scan items' barcodes, push a button to pay, and just walk out the store?
As it turns out, I wasn't the only one who felt this way. 100s of shoppers I spoke to rated the checkout process as the worst part of their grocery experience. It's no wonder so many have opted out entirely and now depend on grocery delivery services like Instacart.
BigCos like Walmart and Kroger successfully launched their own apps, but:
